Summer Series #7 // A Traveler's Guide to Packing

My seventh and final post in the Summer Series! To catch up on the other posts, go HERE (under 'Summer 2013 Series')

Can you believe it's July already?!
Summer is upon us - well me anyway cause I'm finally on summer break! - which means traveling is in order! Here are some tips on packing in order to maximise your luggage space and minimise the number of bags you'll have to carry around!:

1. Keep your clothes rollin'
Contrary to what people think, roll your clothes instead of folding them! Not only does it take up less space, but they're less prone to getting deep wrinkles from fold creases

2. List away!
As irritating as it is, a packing list is always handy. This is so you know what you have to bring, what you need to buy and can check things off the list one by one! Bye bye last minute panic!

3. Two is better than one
Pack clothes and items that serve dual purposes such as pants that can be worn as shorts, jacket that's soft enough to be a pillow, pair of shoes that can be worn both day and night time... etc. This saves space and weight!

4. Liquid ruling
Always be sure to check the rules on liquid that your airline has! It'd be shame to have to throw something away during the baggage checking process!

5. Which suitcase?
Hard shell = Adds dead weight but offers more protection // Soft shell = Easily expandable when there's limited storage
Too large = won't fit in the car boot // Too small = not enough space!
Four wheels = Easier to manoeuver, especially if it swivels

6. Embellishments
Don't go overboard, but do something to your luggage so it's easily identifiable and you won't have to spend ages at the carousel waiting or checking each bag that passes by. Tie a ribbon, a cute luggage tag or even stick a few stickers (:

7. Lighten up!
This one's a hard one to stick to (I can never do it myself...) but seriously, pack light - not your entire wardrobe!  You know you're going to buy more things at your destination!

My challenge for you: How many outfits can you create with the least number of clothing? Leave your link in the comments below!

Lastly, take this summer to do something new - something you've never done before or something you've dreamed of doing but never had the guts to. After all, you do have 2 months (give or take) to see how it will work out! Take a risk, because you'll never know if you never try.

P.S: Images are all taken from various places on Tumblr, I just added the words (:
Hope you guys liked the Summer Series!
