Transition to Fall with Julep

When Abbey from Julep contacted me to do a post about transition your nail polish from those bright summer shades to beautiful ones, I was on board. Fall nail colours actually excite me because I'm more into the darker, classier and more mysterious shades that complements this time of year. The handy infographic below showcases some of the top summer shades and its fall equivalent - so if you spy your favourites, you know which to try next.

For my mood board, I've decided to choose the shade 'Beverly' which is a described as a boysenberry creme - sounds super yum.

To make the glamorous deep purple shade stand out, I've decided to go with my favourite A/W print - tartan, and chose two different colour variations to mix it up a little. I paired this dark green based tartan smock dress with a red based tartan scarf and a neutral trench coat that can keep you all warm and snuggly as temperatures drop. Of course, what fall look is complete without a classic pair of chunky black boots! This mixture of dark and neutral shades will compliment the vampy purple without looking too gloomy - after all, that's what the weather's for!

What's your favourite fall shade this season?
Need more shades? Julep has got you covered.

Autumn/Fall Style Inspiration

As we get near the end of September, the weather gets cooler and cardigans, beanies, scarves and tights come out to play during the colder, darker months. Living in a tropical country with only 2 seasons (wet & dry), I've always been slightly jealous of those bloggers in the northern hemisphere that are able to snuggle up in cosy sweaters and partake in the art of fashion we call 'layering'. But since this year is the first year that I'll be in the UK for autumn and winter, I must say that I am beyond excited to be able to jump on that bandwagon - I've already started preparing by buying tons of sweaters in my latest August Haul.

When it comes to fashion/style inspiration, Pinterest  is my absolute favourite. So for those of you that are unsure of how to/what is layering or how to wear that new coat/boots of yours...this will be extremely handy ;)

1. Leather is literally the material for fall if you want that edgy yet chic look
2. Scarf, beanie and trench coat? Check.
3. Pair one of those chunky, oversized 'sweater dresses' with knee high boots for the laidback and casual look whilst running errands
4. Think maxi skirts are reserved for the summer? Think again.

4. When transitioning from summer to fall, layer a sweater over your favourite dress and...voila. Instant sophistication.
5. Don't store your shorts away during these colder months - instead, wear them with cosy tights and you're good to go
6. The layering trick that makes anyone look good with a preppy flair - layer your favourite sweater over your favourite plaid shirt. Never underestimate the power of plaid prints.
7. Take layering to a whole new level by wearing a cardigan over your dress and belting it together!

Hope this post has been useful in helping you gain some inspiration on what to wear as the leaves changes colour and temperatures drop!

Nail Trends for Fall 2013

One of the major accessories for women this season are their nails. You can update your fall look with dark neutrals like black or oxblood. You also can add a hint of metallic to your manicure, opt for nude tones or delve into the world of nail art and embellish your nails with glitter or crystals.

Here are some of the hot new nail trends you will see around town this fall from BluePromoCode.

1. Red nails are one of this season’s most popular colors. This fiery shade exudes style, femininity and personality. It doesn’t matter whether you prefer deep wine, dark or blood red, crimson or a more pastel tone, they will all go with the retro-inspired looks featured on this fall’s runways. We have found a good sampling of red polishes at stores like Bluefly.

2. In the past, metallic colors have been the perfect choice for festive, elegant events. Now these eye-catching hues are showing up on the fashion scene in a big way. This season make way for a more modern take on metallics. Shimmering shades of silver, gold and bronze can stand alone or you can put them on over colors like butter or purple or top them off with a layer of lacquer. You can check out the latest in metallics at places like Nordstrom.

3. Black is back! If you aren’t sure if the vamp and goth look is for you, you may want to try your “hand” at the new black nail polishes. Regardless of whether your nails are long or short, round or square, you can combine classy black black with your own favorite shades or lacquers to personalize your look.

4.From milk to dark chocolate, this creamy nail color looks almost good enough to eat.The new chocolate hues compliment all skin tones and create a warm, sophisticated and effortless appearance. If you decide to wear chocolate polish be sure to keep your nails short and clean.

5.If black seems too dark, you might want to try painting your nails navy. Known for being “universally flattering,” rich, dark navy is an attractive alternative to the more typical fall colors that doesn’t look heavy or outdated. To help make your fingers look longer when wearing navy lacquer, keep your nail length just past your fingertips with an oval shaped tip. We love the navy polishes found at ASOS.

6. One of the hottest nail colors this fall is barely even a color. Nude shades not only flatter all skin tones, they also can hide chips and make your manicure look fresher, longer. When selecting a nude polish you should choose the one that most closely matches your skin tone. Light pink neutrals or milky hues are recommended for fair skin. Choose a nude polish with warm overtones if you have medium skin. Yellow undertones—even gold—are a good match for olive skin and orange or yellow undertones work best for dark skin.

7.Painting your nails orange isn’t just for Halloween! If you aren’t ready to relinquish those bright summer colors try one of these slices of orange: pumpkin spice, tiger lilly, neon orange, jelly orange or coral.

8. Take a walk on the wild side and embellish your nails with crystals, rhinestones, glitter, fimo slices, stickers or nail tatoos decals.

OOTD // Anapneo

Pictures taken by le sister

floral dress: mum's (unbranded) // similar here and here
oversized khaki blouse: aunt's (unbranded) // similar here and here
red wedges: unbranded // similar here and here
scarf: gifted // similar here and here

Anapneo

"A healing spell that clears the target person's airways if blocked"

Comes from the Greek word anapneo (αναπνέω) which means "I breathe"

Perhaps not my favourite spell...although it's probably extremely useful!
It's been raining loads lately, which resulted in indoors outfit taking - hopefully the rain will stop soon!
Anyway, this is a simple way to transition a floral dress (which I've also worn and 'transformed' here) from summer to fall! Just throw on an oversized blouse (if it's not too cold) and a scarf (:
The effect on the very first photo was actually not intended, but I quite like it! I may try to replicate it when editing future pictures :D
