Cropped Bustier/Bralet : Lookbook (Part 2/2)

Previously, I talked about cropped bustier/bralets and tips on how to wear them!Go to Part 1 (HERE)

How I will style it (via Polyvore) - and yes, I went a little crazy creating outfits instead of revising...oops!:

Look 1:

White Ruched Front Bralet Crop Top (New Look) // Hi Lo Chiffon Skirt (Delia's) // Women's Callia Strappy Chestnut Brown Wedge Sandals (Ugg) // Braided Fringe Hobo Bag (Wet Seal) // Beaded Coil Bracelet (Maurices) // Gold Layered Necklace in black & cream (Ettika)

For this look, I went for simplicity in neutrals and just paired a simple white bralet with a flowy coral hi-low top (2 trends in 1! wheeee) I accessorized it with brown/earthy toned items to give it a laid back feel. I think this is perfect for summer or strolling along the beach... and has a bit of bohemian vibe to it (:

Look 2
Pink Applique Detail Crop Top Bralet (Chiara Fashion) // Alberceque distressed denim shorts (Ksubi) // Calypso Gladiator Sandals (GUESS) // Le Sentier Top (Yoox) // Chinle Backpack (Forever 21) // Feather Linear Earring (Wet Seal) // Walker Large Circle Frame Sunglasses (OC Shades) // Parker Cocktail Headband (Eugenia Kim)

With this look, I kept thinking, Coachella, music festivals, music festivals... and ta da! I'll admit I took my inspiration from Vanessa Hudgen's various Coachella outfits which I adore (: A simple pink bralet with frayed denim shorts (preferably high waisted) and perhaps a fringed vest if that's showing TOO much skin. And no music festival is complete with sandals when walking in the grass, feathered earrings, printed bag to store essentials, and a floral headband.

Look 3

Black Spikes Bralet Top ( missrebel) // Gold Shiny Skater Skirt (Chiara Fashion) // Axton Suede Gold Trim Wedges (Michael Kors) // Pink & Gold Deco Bead Embellished Clutch (New Look) // Silver Ridge Bangles (Baublebar) // Chevron Earrings (Style Tryst)
Not only can bralets be used for casual occasions, but they can be dressed up just as nicely. I loved the golden, shiny look of the skirt (only 10 pounds!) so I paired it with a plain black bralet with studs! The rest of the accessories I kept to the gold/black theme (: Perfect for a formal-ish occasion or a lovely night out (:

Look 4

Days of Night Bustier (Sass&Bide) // Royal Blue Lapel Wing Blazer (by Masc) // Highwaist Zip Skinny Trousers (Topshop) // Salome Sandal (eLavin) // Black Tote Bag (Wallis)  // Lipstick: MAC Riri Woo

This outfit could be wearable in a creative working environment or events where you aim to be professional - but don't forget that blazer! And who says navy and black don't go together! A bright red lip to tie the whole look together and you're good to go (:

Look 5

Pink Floral Zip Front Bustier (Topshop) // Moto Polka Dot Denim Skater Skirt (Topshop) // Amara Baby Pink Leather Look Lace Up Perspex Block Heel (boohoo.com) // Morgan Saddle Bag (orYANY) // Hepcat Shades (Madewell) //
Straw Fedora (GUESS)

Since I chose almost all plain bralets for my previous looks, I decided to showcase a printed floral one (: After matching it with a polka dotted circle skirt, I decided I'd go for a country look. Hence the fedora, crossbody bag (which I want!) and nude ankle boots - yea... I like my neutrals. Even though the prints are different, the colours and shades match up pretty well! (:

My favourite look out of the five would be either #1 or #5 because I love my skirts :P Also, I tend to go by the rule: Tight top, loose bottoms OR loose top, tight bottoms (:

How celebrities wear it

The Pants

(L-R): Kirsten Stewart; Jennifer Lopez; Rihanna; Jessie J

I love Kirsten Stewart's unique bralet and how she paired it with flair trousers AND Rihanna's look because it shows just the right amount of skin (:

The Skirts/Dress

(L-R): Selena Gomez; Miley Cyrus; Sophie Monk; Pixie Lott

Probably my favourite look out of the whole bunch would be Selena Gomez's! Love the bralet AND the skirt. Miley Cyrus' is also a winner for me (:
On the Runway

Uber professional
Hey, the one on the very right is just like Kirsten Stewart's! :D

So what do you think? How would you style the cropped bustier/bralet & what's your favourite look? (:

Star Trek Into the Darkness + OOTD

Double post today! Yayyy! Since today was the last day of my end of year exams, my friends and I thought we'd throw a mini celebration by going to the cinemas and watch... STAR TREK - INTO THE DARKNESS! Wheeee! It is the 12th installment in the Star Trek franchise and the sequel to Star Trek (2009)

Director: J.J Abrams
Notable actor/actress: Chris Pine; Zachary Quinto; Zoe Saldana; Benedict Cumberbatch; Alice Eve; Simon Pegg; Karl Urban

My verdict:
Without giving too much away, Star Trek - Into the Darkness is an action sci-fi film. To be honest, I'm not really into that kind of thing & just went along because my friends suggested it... but after watching the movie, I LOVE IT.  Although it is like most sci fi films with cool gadgets and shiz, the plot is amazing - lots of twists & unexpected events. I tried to guess what would happen next...but got it wrong everytime :( That just goes to show how intense and unpredictable (in a good way) this movie is! Whether you're a sci-fi fan or not, this movie is worth watching! Let's just say, future London = freaking awesome.

If this didn't entice you, go check out the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhz4A5BCMAA

OOTD / What I Wore

Top: Cotton On
Shorts: Unbranded
Nude tank top (underneath): Forever 21
Bag: Cotton On

Since I practically only had time to leave school after my last exam (which was Maths, ew.), come home & change, I opt for something simple and decided to play with neutrals! Hence the gold headband, tan/sandy coloured cropped tank & grey, tie-dye like shorts. The tank top was cotton mesh (...yea that's how I am going to describe it) which meant it was see through so I wore a nude tank to not make it obvious (: I love my grey tie-dye shorts because I have too many denim ones! Plus, they are frayed at the bottom! Got my bag as a Christmas present from mum a few years ago & it's still going strong (: It's big enough to fit almost everything but the down side is that you can't be too many heavy things in there and there are no compartments so it's hard to find what you want sometimes :/
(Please excuse the stains :/)

Shoes: Vincci

I was going to wear my gold glittery flats, but I was in a rush & couldn't find them so I thought the next best thing would be my favourite floral flats (: AND it sort of matched my bag too :D

Have you watched Star Trek - how did you like it? (:

Trend Report: Cropped Bustier/Bralet (Part 1/2)

From L-R: Lashes Bralet Lace Top (House of Fraser) //  Mara Hoffman Bustier Top (Les Nouvelles) //
Electric Tropical Print Bustier (Forever 21) // Barbie Comic Zip Bra (Miss Selfridge)

Cropped bustier (or as some people call them 'bralets'): Not to be confused with a bralette - which is a really really small girly bra

This what I am currently coveting. Unsurprisingly, it's become a huge trend and guess what? It's perfect for summer when you want to keep cool! Even though it goes with just about anything, there's a fine line between classy and trashy with this item because it there's a lot of skin baring going on! So here's how to wear this trend without looking like a ______ but yet exposing a little subtle sexiness:

#1: Think high waisted! - not only does it accentuates your waist, but prevents more than unwanted/inappropriate baring of midriff

#2: If you're petite (like me): Try wearing maxi skirts or flared trousers/pants to give the illusion of height

#3: Think you're exposing too much? Just wear a blazer or cardigan

#4: STILL think you're exposing much more than you're comfortable with? Layer it over a fitted top (not those flowy ones) - yes, that's kinda cheating but shhhh...

#5 Let it peek out under a half buttoned blouse or V neck top

#6: Get one that FITS and has the right amount of boob-coverage! You don't want it to spill out!

#7 Under a flowy, light summer dress/ loose top with large armholes to turn it into a bandeau and to give your outfit a little peek of colour. BUT: Try to stray away from lace ones if the top is sheer because it could be mistaken for lingerie!

With so many styles (strapless, super cropped, halter neck...) and patterns (denim, floral, polka dots...) to choose from, there's definitely one to suit everyone! It just depends what level you're comfortable with!

Check back next time where I will show you how I (and others) will style it!

Update: PART 2 is up HERE

Artic Grey - frosted mid-tone grey (lustre)
Courtly Grey - matte cool grey (matte)
Typographic - asphalt black (matte)
Rainy Season - light warm grey frost (satin)

My verdict

Although not strictly just orange - as it has variations of pinks and corals - I still think that this collection is perfect for summer. I'm most excited to try:
Lipstick: Sushi Kiss
Cremesheen Glass: Double Happiness
Powder Blush: Honey Jasmine
Nail Lacquer: Ke Ai

Yes, as you can see, I prefer softer shades :D

For the eyeshadow quad, I'm a little disappointed as it seems like the 'odd one out' of the collection since there's not a bit of orange! I thought that they may've included either bright orange or coral eyeshadow shades and the eyeshadow 'rainy season' quad isn't very summery :( BUT, I guess it can either be a base or accompany any brighter eyeshadow shades you already have (:

Coming to stores on: June 6th (TODAY!)

What are your favourite shades? Will you be picking up this collection?
